Felsenmeer
A field of granite blocks weighing many tonnes each, as if scattered by a giant hand. Among them stand remains of Roman stonemasonry from the 2nd to 4th century, including the 9.3 metre Riesensäule column and the altar stone.

The Neckar valley
Neckarsteinach, the town of four castles, Hirschhorn with its castle and the view over the Neckar bend, Neckargemünd with the Dilsberg fortress. Boat trips on the Neckar round it off.
Michelstadt
A medieval townscape with its town wall and the historic town hall of 1484. The Einhard basilica is nearby.
Abenteuer Wald high ropes course
An unusual climbing experience among the trees. Great fun for young and old.

Can I hike straight from the site?
Yes. Well-marked footpaths start directly at the campsite and lead through forests and valleys with wide views. Within reach are the Tromm with the Himmelsleiter and the Nibelungensteig trail.
What works well with children?
The Felsenmeer for climbing, the Odenwaldbob summer toboggan run, the Erlenbach mountain animal park and the Abenteuer Wald ropes course. In the rain, the Buchen cave and the indoor play centre in Mörlenbach work well.
How far is Heidelberg?
Heidelberg is a day trip from the site. If you want to break up the drive, stop at Neckarsteinach and Hirschhorn on the way.
Is there anything for mountain bikers?
Yes, around Hammelbach there are routes at every level of difficulty, from easy valley loops to demanding descents.
